Gabi is…
a Brazilian-American trans-disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY and Philadelphia, PA. She is a proud alumna of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating with a BFA in Drama as of May 2025. She is also an OPC of William Penn Charter School.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Gabi grew up immersed in music, theater, and creative writing. From a young age, she actively participated in choirs, a cappella groups, musicals, and plays, while also exploring photography and (song)writing.
In 2021, Gabi moved to New York City to pursue her artistic ambitions and deepen her understanding of human behavior. She trained at renowned studios including Atlantic Theater Company, Playwrights Horizons Theater School, and Stonestreet Studios, while also earning a minor in psychology from the College of Arts and Science.
Gabi’s artistic path transformed when she began learning from Ruben Polendo through his Reinventions of Love class and joined Theater Mitu for an Artistic Intensive in India, June 2024. There, she encountered a trans-disciplinary approach to art-making that deeply resonated with her, sparking a self-affirming and expansive journey as an artist and human being.

æthaus
Her early devised work, This Is Where I Knew You Best, directed by Asal Azari, evolved into æthaus. æthaus is a research-based devised theater company, whose main members share a foundation in dramaturgy, performance art, and the integration of creative technology—developed through their participation in Ruben Polendo’s inaugural cohort at NYU Tisch’s Innovation Studio in 2025.
In June 2025, æthaus premiered its debut work as an official company at the ALAB Theater Festival at IRT: The Beast, The Mother, and The Kid.
The production earned recognition in Fountain House and City Voices, with a review by community leader and friend, Dan Frey.

An audio-visual creative study created, directed, and edited by Gabi DuPont during her semester at The Innovation Studio studying with Ruben Polendo and Attilio Rigotti
This project explores the emotional patterns experienced within BPD during a traumatic response.
BOREDOM 2 APATHY 2 (self) LOVE
I made this project all in the matter of 24 hours the week of my grandmothers death… I spent the semester grieving and dealing with hypochondria, addiction, and mental health issues which broke me and built me up again stronger. At Innovation, I learned how to process through my art and walked the fine line between the story of my life, and the stories I told myself.

Created and directed by Gabi DuPont
How do you find embodied liberation in a surveillance state?
Not allowed at home during the day time
May I get some cash please?
I was a teenager becoming an adult using
Subscription-- Prescription pills!
She would just get really belligerent and emotional
I just pushed her away
I remember seeing everything and everything just being gray
So fricken hungry
I never bought food because I was an alcoholic
You’re tik tok famous to homeless on the streets
Over a million people and not one friend
Split it like we do with everything
Adapting is easy for a creature such as I
The circumstances for living are harsh,
and so are the circumstances for manual labor
but
Survival isn’t hard.
It’s only dangerous if you’re not a natural born killer.
I don’t have a phone and I don’t plan on getting one.
Are you gonna be at work today
“nope”.
I left the company and they didn’t have anyone who could handle that much work
And they shut down
I Don’t go to shelters
I follow the wind, I go against the wind actually.
It helps me stand up
I gave up technology You know why?
I take too many selfies man

Artists Statement Gabi’s work engages deeply with bridging the gap between the somatic and the spiritual. She is particularly interested in resisting bodily complacency, which she believes constricts the spirit. Through her practice, she experiments with breaking forms and challenging how we expect things to look or behave. She believes that disrupting form can rearrange the energetic matter of the body—whether through sound, visuals, or somatic leadership—creating a moment of rupture followed by reset.
Her writing practice often incorporates stream-of-consciousness techniques, heavily influenced by Brazilian author Clarice Lispector, alongside methods such as blackout poetry and the collage of documentary materials. Through these processes, she aims to reveal hidden messages that emerge from the alchemy of assembling disparate fragments.
While working with her theater company Aethaus, she has explored contact improvisation and dance theater, increasingly moving toward research-based and devised methodologies. Her work frequently incorporates physical performance, combining spoken word with abstract movement and layered visual imagery.
Through her transdisciplinary studies at the Innovation Studio at NYU Tisch, as well as her study abroad experience in India with Theater Mitu, Gabi has embraced a more expansive and multifaceted artistic practice. She has grown increasingly interested in performance art–influenced theater and film forms that prioritize authentic bodily expression and resist conventional narrative structures. Rather than presenting a fixed plot or predetermined conclusion, her work invites audiences to arrive at their own meanings based on their individual perceptions and associations.
Across mediums, Gabi experiments with how written language, physical expression, and initially illegible visual forms can work together to move audiences out of their bodies and then return them to themselves with greater clarity. The act of assembling meaning from these fragments becomes part of the experience—mirroring the spiritual nature of life itself. Ultimately, her work serves as a reminder that the metaphysical is always accessible.
